At Thompson Rivers University (TRU), we prepare students to tackle one of Canada’s most pressing challenges: wildfire management. The Diploma in Wildfire Studies equips students with the knowledge and skills to lead in wildfire mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

Highlights

Based in Kamloops—home to the BC Wildfire Service Provincial Wildfire Coordination Centre, and one of the most wildfire-impacted regions in the world—TRU’s Diploma in Wildfire Studies offers a unique opportunity to explore the full spectrum of wildfire. From media and communications to community impacts, fireline leadership and socio-cultural dynamics, this interdisciplinary program prepares students to be part of the solution. Learn in a highly collaborative environment alongside a diverse cohort that includes firefighters, industry professionals and other learners working across sectors. The program is taught by a diverse collection of wildfire experts from across disciplines, reflecting the complexity and growing importance of this field. With wildfire now touching nearly every corner of society, graduates will be well-positioned for careers in government, industry, non-profits and beyond.
